With the economy in a tailspin, the deficit growing uncontrollably and no realistic, meaningful plan for healthcare reform, this roller coaster has just left the station. We are all eagerly listening with anticipation to that clickety-clack, clickety-clack of the clogs, as we ascend that first steep set of...
Have you heard all the buzz generated by our Presidential candidates about their great ideas to solve the health care crisis? Nothing, not a word. Sadly, it does not even make the top three issues that concern most Americans. As physicians, we know it is truly the 800-pound gorilla in the room and any proposed solution will make resolving the crisis of Social Security reform look like a...
President Obama’s comprehensive ten-year budget plan includes a blueprint to create a $634 billion reserve fund as a “first step” towards health care reform. It is described as a “down payment” and it will probably end up to be over a trillion dollars by the time it is fully implemented. The plan’s stated goal is to “put the United States on a clear path to cover all...
The past few months have been hectic to say the least for health care providers. Emergency departments and private physician office practices have seen record volumes. The Swine Flu, or H1N1 as the Administration would like us to call it, has taken Indiana by storm. While the number of cases have been few and fatalities still fewer, the public was concerned and wanted answers. Most were walking wounded, who needed nothing more than...
For the last few months health care has take center stage in a national debate. In June President Obama went to Chicago to address the AMA about his vision for how to improve the health and well being of our great nation. He was treated with respect and after speaking to members of the Indiana delegation who were present, there was mostly applause, but a few jeers especially when he backtracked on tort reform for...

The following was a letter to the editor, published in the Indianapolis Star on April 4, 2010. You can read the full article by clicking here.
I am disappointed to see The Star waste its limited space to report, yet again, on political fundraising in the 5th Congressional District race. I want to knowabout the issues and the candidates' qualifications, not how many TV ads they are running. When I go into the voting booth, I don't ask myself, "Who has raised the most money?" I ask, "Who is the most qualified to represent my interests in Washington?"The state of the economy and the health-care crisis should tell us not to believe a single political advertisement. If these candidates were as wonderful as their ads portray, we would be experiencing an incredible national prosperity. We're not.
Dan Burton (and here), Luke Messer and Mike Murphy have a lot of money because they are part of the political establishment and have deep ties to the party poohbahs who perpetuate incumbency and business as usual in Washington. Despite their advertising rhetoric, they are part of the problem. My "money" is on Dr. John McGoff. He had the courage to take on Burton in 2008 when nobody else would, and his qualifications are better than even the incumbent congressman. If The Star won't report on qualifications, I hope the 5th District voters will do their own research so we can finally give Burton a retirement party.
The Team McGoff Rally Continues in the final days…this just in from McGoff for Congress HQ:
It’s the first day of May, and the last weekend before Election Day.
Now we need to clinch the undecided and disenfranchised voters to put some distance between me, and “The Usual Suspects:”
After nearly 40,000 phone calls, our internal numbers suggest [...]
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) On Friday night, Congressman Dan Burton’s campaign launched a new advertisement that takes his campaign even further away from his Indiana constituents. The new ads are produced and funded by the American Future Fund (AFF) – an Iowa-based political action committee with deep roots to party insiders and lobbyists in Washington. The [...]
Ft. Wayne Journal-Gazette Picks McGoff
On the homestretch of the race for Indiana’s 5th District’s congressional seat, Dr. John McGoff is breaking further from the pack with an endorsement from The Fort Wayne Journal- Gazette, the second largest newspaper reaching 5th District voters.
The paper’s editorial board wrote: “Dr. John McGoff is the best choice for [...]
(Indianapolis, Ind.) So far, the 2010 primary elections have not been good for incumbents. In many cases across the country ‘the usual suspects’ are being replaced by veterans, doctors and business owners.
Supporting that trend is a recent survey from the Pew Research Center showing public confidence in the Federal Government is low. Nearly [...]
